8th Grade Community Project
- As an IB MYP school, all 8th graders are required to complete a community project. Completing the project fulfills your community service for 8th grade
- Completing this project is required to earn the Oak Grove IB MYP Certificate of Completion.
- Spend a minimum of 15-20 hours and work with up to 2 other people (maximum group size of 3 total)
- Overview of the process:
- Investigate: You identify a need/problem in a community.
- Plan (Design & Prepare): You plan a way to address the need/problem.
- Take Action: You put your plan into action (possibly with others).
- Reflect & Communicate: You reflect on your impact and present your entire project to the community.
- You document and plan the whole process in your process journal.
Important Dates:
- 4/30: Projects are due. Some students will be asked to present at the 4/30 Open House and Multicultural Fair
- 4/30 - 5/07: Students will present their projects at school to 7th grade classrooms
- 5/07: IB Spring Showcase - All 8th graders will present their projects to the school community. IB awards will be presented to IB learners of the month.

"The aims of the MYP projects are to encourage and enable students to:
- participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context
- generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation
- demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time
- communicate effectively in a variety of situations
- demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
- appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments."
